About the FTM Network

The FTM network is an informal and Ad hoc self help group, open to all female to male transgender and transsexual people, or those exploring this aspect of their gender. Currently it has over 750 members in Britain and Europe, and contact with F to M groups in America, Belgium, France, Russia, China, Japan and Australia.

The Network is:

  • Free to all F to M’s.
  • Run by F to M’s, for F to M’s.

Its volunteers provide:

  • Free Quarterly news magazine
  • “Buddying” and advice from other F to M’s
  • Annual Social Events
  • Telephone Support Line

The idea is that new members learn from old members. If you want, we try to put you in touch with members in your own area who are willing to provide support and advice. In return, one day you may be asked to support a new member.

We try to act as a group of friends to each other, it is a totally informal network - it is not a charity. We survive on your donations, but no person need to feel that they cannot afford to be a network member. It is hoped that the network will enable members to live their lives to the full, and that at some time in the future, members who can afford to will repay any debt they feel to the network members by making a donation to ensure that some other person can benefit from being a network member.

The FTM Network is not a secret society. A main aim of the network is to provide a space wherein we can learn how to stop being ashamed and frightened because of our gender status. Certainly we are NOT secretive amongst ourselves. As a rule members hand out their own phone numbers and addresses freely amongst each other, and we work on the basis that if you trust someone enough to give them your phone number, then you can give them mine. But your permission is always asked before your details are ever given to a network member, particularly a new one.

Once you have joined the network, as it is free, you are in it for life unless you choose to write and cancel your part in it. Just please let us know when you move, otherwise it wastes postage, and it can end up giving the new occupiers of the house something interesting to read.
